What to Know

Let’s face it: Traveling to and from work probably isn’t your favorite part of the day. But your daily commute can be more affordable and convenient with support from these commuting-related benefits.

Commuter Benefits

All Exelixis employees are eligible to deduct up to $315 per month pretax to cover transit and parking expenses for commutes to and from work. In turn, your taxable income for the year decreases. And if your commute costs you more than $315 a month, don’t worry; Exelixis tacks on a subsidy of up to $100 to offset your cost for those reporting into an Exelixis office. It’s our way of saying that we’re happy you’re here! And it’s easy to register and place your monthly orders.

Covered Expenses

There are two separate commuter check programs that cover:

• Transit expenses, including tickets and passes for mass transit systems such as bus, ferry, train, trolley, BART, etc., and fees for eligible ride-share services such as uberPOOL, Lyft Line, Via and Chariot
• Parking expenses at public transportation lots

What’s NOT covered?

• Tolls
• Taxis
• Gas/fuel
• Mileage
• Business trip costs
• Airport parking fees
• Parking fees at your home
• Any other expenses not explicitly covered under the Commuter Benefits program

How to Register

If you’re new to Navia Benefit Solutions, visit naviabenefits.com. Click the Register link in the upper-right corner of the screen and select “I’m a participant.” When you register, use company ID EXE. All information must match your employer’s records at the time of eligibility, since this information is used to authenticate you as a user in the system.

Note: The deadline to place your monthly order is the 20th of each month!

Company-Sponsored Transportation

Exelixis offers several transportation options for employees commuting to work.

Harbor Bay Business Park Shuttle

The Harbor Bay Business Park Association operates a free shuttle Monday through Friday during peak commute periods. The shuttle connects the Harbor Bay ferry terminal, the Harbor Bay Business Park, and BART. Learn more.

Vanpool

Vanpools are another flexible option in our transportation program. Exelixis works with Commute with Enterprise to offer company-paid vanpools to our employees. The vehicles range in size from seven to 14 passengers. The vehicle leases cover everything needed to operate the vehicle, including fuel, tolls, insurance, and maintenance. With vanpools, at least two people need to volunteer to be drivers, and they’re generally responsible for parking the vehicle on nights and weekends. Vanpools must maintain at least five consistent participants to keep the vanpool vehicle. Vanpool participants are expected to use the vehicle, on average, at least three times a week.

• There must be a minimum of three occupants in the vanpool vehicle on any given day.
• The vanpool vehicle cannot be utilized with fewer than three occupants on any given day.

If you’re interested in a vanpool, contact transportation@exelixis.com. Vanpools are available to regular employees at no cost. Temporary works must purchase a monthly transportation pass in order to board the vanpools, and they cannot sign up to be a vanpool driver.

Exelixis Guaranteed Ride Home Program

When unexpected circumstances arise, the Exelixis Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program provides a ride home from work for employees who choose to commute by not driving alone. This program allows commuters to feel comfortable taking the bus, train or ferry, carpooling, vanpooling, or bicycling to work, knowing that they will have a ride home in case of an emergency.
